LEAD MOBILE SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Owning the technical direction of Finnair’s shared mobile platform, this senior individual‑contributor role focuses on architectural leadership, hands‑on development, and the overall stability of the React Native (Expo) mobile ecosystem across multiple teams.

Responsibilities
  • Set the technical and architectural direction for the shared mobile platform.
  • Design, build, and review core parts of the platform, tackling hard problems directly.
  • Champion quality through automated testing, test‑able code, and observability that gives confidence in releases.
  • Develop mobile practices, guidelines and tooling that work across teams and provide what teams need to succeed.
  • Align teams so the platform evolves cohesively rather than fragmentally.
  • Own the platform’s shipping and runtime, including build, release and update pipelines and production behaviour.
  • Explore and guide the adoption of AI‑assisted development across teams.
What Success Could Look Like
  • In the Ensimmäinen months: fully understand the platform, teams’ use, and clear Seuraava‑step opportunities.
  • Within the Ensimmäinen year: teams have shared practices, tooling and support, and daily mobile workflows are smooth.
  • Over time: mobile development is fast, consistent and well supported, and the platform is relied on and enjoyed by all teams.
Qualifications
  • Significant, hands‑on experience with React Native and TypeScript on high‑traffic, business‑critical public‑facing apps.
  • Strong grasp of the full mobile app lifecycle from architecture to production.
  • Real commitment to automated testing and setting high quality standards.
  • Strong observability instincts: logging, metrics, crash analytics, performance monitoring.
  • Comfort with backend‑adjacent work: APIs, integrations, data flow, performance.
  • 7–10+ years software development, several years as a technical lead.
  • Ability to lead without formal authority, guiding developers and tech leads through clarity and credibility.
  • Product mindset, considering how technical decisions affect customer experience and business.
  • Strong collaboration and proactivity, spotting problems and opportunities early.
  • Genuine interest in modern, AI‑assisted development.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
Nice to Have
  • Native iOS or Android experience (Swift/Kotlin).
  • Familiarity with Expo / EAS ecosystem and OTA update workflows.
  • Experience setting up mobile practices, standards or platforms across multiple teams.
  • Experience with loyalty, e‑commerce or other high‑transaction consumer products.
  • Experience in an airline or regulated, high‑security domain.
