I’m Matti, responsible for the software architecture of digital commerce transactions mainly for clients in the digital commerce team. I also mentor and train team members, and occasionally code myself.
I appreciate the practical nature of my work. The end product is an online store used by our clients’ customers. Its usability and functionality are crucial for the client’s business. It also simplifies life for the client by automating tasks that would otherwise be manual and time-consuming. Every project is meaningful.
I strive to make my own and others’ work easier by developing best practices, especially those that reduce workload in the long run through processes or automation. For example, I helped implement a tool for setting up developers’ environments, building upon prior work by our previous architect and continuing to develop it.
The best thing about my workplace is: Training opportunities. Everyone at Pinja has dedicated training days to develop their skills, and resources are readily available.

Science supports programmers’ daily livesI studied physics at the University of Oulu, taking courses in mathematics and physics, along with programming. Although I didn’t study programming extensively, I found the courses engaging and motivating.
Physics and mathematics fostered my interest in programming. Studying in English improved my industry language skills, and enhanced my logical and abstract thinking, which are essential in programming.
2011
From military service to postgraduate studiesI earned a master’s degree in philosophy, then served in the military. Afterward, I began postgraduate physics studies, working on personal coding projects in my free time.
2018
Joining Pinja as a software developer through a web programming coursePinja (formerly PiiMega), in collaboration with Buutti, organized Code Match, a web programming course to teach web development and connect companies with potential employees. I attended, which led to a job interview and my current role as a software developer. It’s rewarding to do something I’ve enjoyed for a long time professionally.
2021
Transition to Digital Commerce ArchitectWhen our previous architect moved to a product management role, I stepped into the architect Tehtävä. It was exciting to take on greater responsibility and decision-making. It took time to settle into the role, but with support from the product manager, I found my footing.
As an architect, I make decisions about architecture, technology choices, and development policies. I focus on the big picture, influencing the overall system, while other developers implement the practical aspects. My work leaves a visible mark on the final product.
2022
Everyday life involves helping othersMy day is busy: I write specifications for new features, assist developers, support account managers, and solve problems. Helping colleagues is a rewarding part of my work, even though it can be challenging due to changing contexts and multiple projects.
