Position Description

As a Senior/Principal Backend Engineer, you will work hands-on to design, develop, and scale our core platform, which is built withNode.jsand deployed onAWS. This role requires deep technical expertise in buildingcloud-native, containerized microservicesand experience in designing systems that are both scalable and easily extendable.

You will contribute directly to writing code daily, collaborating with your team to build high-performance, secure, and reliable backend systems.

The ideal candidate has a strong background inNode.js,microservices architecture, andAWS, with a proven track record of working in thebanking and lendingspace or other highly regulated industries. You will help ensure that our platform remains at the forefront of the industry while continuing to meet the needs of our customers.

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Design and Develop Microservices: Build and maintain backend microservices that power our banking and lending SaaS platform, focusing on performance, security, and scalability.
• Leverage AWS Cloud Services: Utilize AWS services likeLambda,EC2,RDS,S3,DynamoDB,SNS,SQS,ECS/Fargate, and others to build and deploy cloud-native solutions that ensure reliability and availability.
• Containerization and Orchestration: UseDockerandKubernetesfor containerizing microservices, ensuring they scale and integrate seamlessly across environments.
• Work with JavaScript/Node.js: Develop and maintain backend code primarily inNode.js. You will be writing code daily, contributing to the evolution of our services, improving performance, and ensuring best practices are followed.
• Ensure Platform Extensibility: Design backend systems that enable our customers—banks and lenders—toextendandcustomizethe platform through APIs, plugins, and integrations.
• Build Scalable Systems: Optimize backend services for high performance, ensuring that the platform scales efficiently to handle large volumes of data and transactions from our financial customers.
• Continuous Integration and Deployment: Work with CI/CD pipelines to automate testing, integration, and deployment processes, enabling rapid yet reliable release cycles.
• Security and Compliance: Implement strong security measures and ensure the platform adheres to industry standards, including compliance withSOC 2,BSA/AML, and other relevant banking and lending regulations. You will be responsible for safeguarding customer data and sensitive information.
• Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the backend systems meet business and customer requirements. You will also work with cloud and DevOps teams to ensure the platform’s smooth deployment and operation.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• 8+ yearsof experience in backend development, with a strong focus onNode.jsand buildingcloud-native applications.
• Expertise in designing and developingmicroservices architecturesand working withcontainerized systemsusingDockerandKubernetes.
• Strong experience withAWSservices likeLambda,EC2,RDS,DynamoDB,S3,SNS,SQS,ECS/Fargate, andAPI Gateway.
• Solid experience buildingRESTful APIs, with a focus onscalability,performance, andsecurity.
• Experience withCI/CDpipelines and tools likeGitHub,GitLab CI,CircleCI, orAWS CodePipelineto automate deployments and manage infrastructure as code.
• Proficiency in working with databases, includingrelational databases(e.g.,PostgreSQL,MySQL) andNoSQLdatabases (e.g.,DynamoDB).
• Strong knowledge ofsecurity best practicesfor cloud applications, including encryption, access control, and API security (OAuth, JWT).
• Experience with high-volume transactional systems and designing forperformanceandscalability.
• Proven ability to work with teams usingAgile methodologies(e.g., Scrum, Kanban) and leveragingJIRAor similar tools for project management.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity withserverlessarchitectures using AWS services such asLambdaandAPI Gateway.
• Experience working withevent-driven architectures,message queues, andstreaming platforms(e.g.,Kafka,Kinesis).
• Experience withmonitoring and observabilitytools likePrometheus,Grafana,Datadog, orAWS CloudWatch.
• Experience withbanking and lending regulationsand building solutions in highly regulated environments.
• Experience withgraph databasesorsearch engines(e.g.,ElasticSearch,Neptune).
